In this episode the topic is: conspiracy theories. How do these increasingly find their way into the mainstream media? And what effect do they have on society? Daniel Trottier, Associate Professor at the Department of Media and Communication of Erasmus University Rotterdam, is our first guest. Currently, he is doing research on the use of digital media for the purposes of scrutiny, denunciation and shaming. On the 25th of November, he and his co-authors will release the Open Access title 'Introducing Vigilant Audiences'. This collection of essays delves into the phenomenon of digital vigilantism, which as the book states: sees digital audiences using social platforms to shape social and political life.
