Dr Afua Appiah is a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist who works in children and adolescent services in London, UK. She joins us on this week's episode to share about how abuse affects mental health.
Afua has worked in Mental Health Services for approximately 10 years with complex conditions and presentations. She has worked in services across the lifespan with individuals and families experiencing the effects of acute mental health crisis. In addition, she has worked with families affected by substance misuse, trauma, physical disabilities and autism. She has a keen interest in the role of public health in prevention and protection of vulnerable children and young people. She has experience of innovative and novel therapeutic approaches to working with complexity and severe mental health problems. She was recently involved in exploring the role of virtual reality in mediating the effects of phobias in children and young people. Afua has worked alongside national organisations in developing guidance and policy in respect of working with children and young people subject to abuse and exploitation.
