Welcome to the Day One Patch Podcast, where we cover the week's gaming news, rumors, reports, and more. This week Ryan, Tim, and Matt discussed the Xbox Games Showcase 2023 and Starfield Direct that happened this past week.
The Xbox Games Showcase 2023 showed off a large collection of games including:
- Fable was finally shown off with some in-engine footage and a cinematic that showed off the game's overall goofy tone. This time Fable is taking on an actual fable, namely Jack and the Beanstalk.
- South of Midnight showed a scene from the American deep south in a claymation/stop-motion style.
- Star Wars Outlaws from Ubisoft's Massive studio had a surprise showing, promising gameplay at the next day's Ubisoft Forward.
- Payday 3 is finally coming soon, with a release date set for September 21. We used to play Payday 2 in college, so we hope this title delivers after all this time!
- Avowed by Obsidian Entertainment, showed off its classic fantasy aesthetic. It looks like its scale is close to their previous RPG, The Outer Worlds.
- Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island is exactly what it sounds like, an expansion for Sea of Thieves that adds Monkey Island content.
- Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth featured a very naked Ichiban Kasuga on a crowded public beach.
- Forza Motorsport is a follow-up to Forza Motorsport 7. Does this new titling indicate a game/platform that will continually be updated? A reboot maybe?
- Cities: Skylines 2 looks like a super detailed city builder with a great amount of scale so you can build a sprawling metropolis.
- Xbox Series S got an upgrade with a carbon black color and 1TB SSD for $349USD.

Starfield Direct was a 45-minute showcase all about Starfield. Bethesda fans rejoice as the presentation was absolutely packed with details on the game's mechanics including: building custom ships, 100+ planets, space combat & piracy, building bases, combat (shooting & melee), and much more.
