The wicked king falls, never again to rise. Elijah, like Yahweh, rises again, never to fall! Ahaziah, when things got tough, went to false gods, just like his father Ahab. The best gift we can give our children is faith in the one true God!
Elijah is described as a "Baal of hair"... Ahaziah wants to hear from a Baal, so God sends Elijah!
The Lord needs to be our safety, our high tower!
God will NOT share us. He is jealous for us!
God is true to his word:
- He sent 153 people to change the king's mind, and it still had no effect. Ahaziah just wanted his way, but the Lord's word is final.
- At the gates of heaven, don't argue with God. His word is final! We don't get the final say! There is no way to the Father except through the Son.
- To believe in the Lord means you FOLLOW him, you keep his commandments! You adhere to his Word. It hems us in and protects us.
The substitute:
- If you don't trust the fire that will fall on the substitute, it will fall on you.
- Do we accept the lamb of God who was sacrificed for us, or do we choose the other option, the never-ending fire of hell?
- We all have free will to accept or reject Christ as our substitute. If we reject him, we have to face the fire ourselves.
If your plan is to argue with God when you face him, you're sunk. Accept his offer to meet your creator through the means he's provided!
