Approximately 25 years later, Albania still follows the aim to establish basic and stable democratic institutions and to guarantee essential constitutional and civic rights (see e.g. Bertelsmann Stiftung). Due to many reasons Albania’s democratization process has been a rocky road: It has to cope with a long history of heteronomy, influences and power claims from surrounding countries, like Italy and the former Ottoman Empire, integration conflicts in the Balkan region and looks back to “decades of isolation and repression under one of the twentieth century’s harshest and most idiosyncratic regimes” (Bajrovic/Satter 2014: 150). Therefore, Albania is labeled as the former “North Korea of Europe” https://www.researchgate.net/publicat... topics: - The movie war dogs & Albanian setting - My thoughts on communism after visiting former communist countries - Cost of living - Is Tirana Safe? - Solo traveling tips - Why do Albanians get a bad rep overseas? - Food is unreal - Mayor 'taking back the city' with color - Macho balkan men - 40 years of communism - Foreigner Dating In Albanian - Mafiaso influence - How much money do Albanians make a month? - Enver Hoxha - Albanian Stereotypes - true or false - Underground bunker tour - Pyramid tomb - Ottoman bridge - Little kids begging at cafes - Most 'designer' I have seen worn in a city, more than Paris & Milan - Italian occupation - Family importance In Albania && much more !
