Shannan Gilbert was born on October 24, 1986. In May 2010, she was working as an escort and had traveled to Oak Beach, Long Island, to meet a client. During her visit, she suddenly disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
Her disappearance led to a massive search effort and an investigation into her whereabouts.During the search for Shannan, authorities made a grim discovery in December 2010. They found the remains of several other women in the same area where Shannan was last seen.
The case was quickly linked to the work of a suspected serial killer, who later became known as the Long Island Serial Killer. The victims, many of whom were also involved in the sex industry, had been murdered and their bodies left in the same vicinity.Shannan's disappearance and the subsequent discovery of the other victims sparked widespread media attention and public concern.
However, it wasn't until April 2011 that Shannan's remains were found in a marshy area near Oak Beach. Her cause of death was determined to be "undetermined" due to the advanced state of decomposition.
Now, after the arrest of Rex Heuermann, the Gilbert family attorney is commenting on that arrest and if he thinks there are any ties to Shannan's murder.
