  • 1983 - Kiss appeared without their makeup for the first time. It happened during an interview on MTV in which the band members were promoting the release of their newest album.
  • 2014 - Taylor Swift was at No. 1 on the U.S. singles chart with "Shake It Off", Swift's second No. 1 single in the U.S. and the 22nd song to debut at No. 1 in the chart's history.
  • Birthdays: Dee Dee Ramone, was born today in 1951

September 19th

  • 1960 - Former chicken plucker Chubby Checker went to No. 1 on the U.S. singles chart with "The Twist"
  • 1993 - Pearl Jam released their second studio album, Vs. The album set the record for the most copies of an album sold in its first week, a record it held for five years, despite the fact that the group declined to produce music videos for any of the album's singles
  • Birthdays: (Mama) Cass Elliot of The Mamas and the Papas was born today in 1941

  • 1969 - During a meeting in London between John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Lennon announced he was leaving The Beatles.
  • 1980 - Kate Bush scored her first U.K. No. 1 album with Never For Ever. It was the first-ever album by a British female solo artist to top the U.K. album chart as well as being the first album by any female solo artist to enter the chart at No. 1.
  • Birthdays: Ben Shepherd of Soundgarden is 54

  • 2011 - R.E.M. announce that they're calling it quits after more than 30 years
  • Birthdays: Faith Hill is 55

  • 1998 - The Goo Goo Dolls release their smash album Dizzy Up The Girl, which includes the singles "Iris," "Slide," and "Black Balloon."
  • Birthdays: Nick Cave is 65

  • 1967 - "People Are Strange" by The Doors was released
  • 1989 - Milli Vanilli started a two-week run at No. 1 on the U.S. singles chart with "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You," the duo's second U.S. No. 1.
  • Birthdays: Ray Charles was born today in 1930. He passed away in 2004.

  • 1962 - James Brown recorded his legendary Live At The Apollo album. The album sold more than a million copies was listed at No.24 in Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and in 2004, it was one of 50 recordings chosen by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry.
  • 1995 - Smashing Pumpkins released their album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
  • 2006 - Forbes.com revealed that Kurt Cobain had overtaken Elvis Presley as the highest earning dead celebrity.
  • Birthdays: Drake is 33.
