Directed by Sidney Lumet from a screenplay by Frank Pierson and starring Al Pacino, John Cazale, Charles Durning, Chris Sarandon, Penelope Allen and Sully Boyar, Dog Day Afternoon was inspired by the true story of a Brooklyn bank robbery in 1972.
