George Floyd The Unravelling Of The American Justice Systems Ep 42 ⚖️
Manage episode 343965983 series 3230815
RB discusses and explores the killing of George Floyd captured on camera and then televised to the world. The murder bares chilling similarities to a long line of Black men and women killed via police brutality in America over the decades since historic killings of Black men. One which sticks out is that of Emmett Till, Trayvon Martin, Philando Castile, Corrine Gaines , Breonna Taylor and Eric Garner who is known for telling officers before he drew his last breathe " I can't breathe" Never again did we think we would hear these chilling words again from George Floyd has Derek Chauvin knelt on his windpipe cutting off his air supply for 9 minutes until he died pleading for his life.
RB discusses how this murder triggered a consciousness in people from across the world who came out in protest when all 4 officers involved were only fired and not charged. Then Police Officer Chauvin was only charged with 3rd degree murder. Equating to accidental death.
RB also explores how Police Brutality has affected Black people through the ages around the globe, the lasting affects on families, mental health and how racism is depicted within film, the arts and what can be done to challenge systematic racism.
