Vijay Prashad - Julian Assange, Gaza, Ukraine & terrorist attack in Russia
Manage episode 409411558 series 3362206
In this episode of The Source, we interview historian, journalist and author Vijay Prashad. We begin the interview with a look at the recent UK High Court ruling on the extradition of Julian Assange to the US. We then inquire about the reasons for the US abstention in the recent UN Security Council vote on Gaza, which enabled the adoption of a resolution calling for a ceasefire. Previously, the US had vetoed any resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. We assess Israel's recent record annexation of 800 hectares of Palestinian land since 1993 in the West Bank and ask why the West is failing to impose sanctions or enforce international law. We analyze the recent Islamic State terrorist attack in Russia and the European countries that have raised their terror alert levels in response, and ask whether Islamic terrorism is on the rise. Finally, we discuss the growing European support for Ukraine at a time when support in the US is waning, and whether this would be sufficient to catapult Ukraine to victory.
