David D. Perlmutter: From 2013 to 2023 David D. Perlmutter was dean of the College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University where he is now a full professor. He received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Perlmutter is the author or editor of ten books on political communication, new media technologies, and higher education published by, among others, Palgrave, Oxford, and Harvard University Press. He also published several dozen research articles for academic journals and hundreds of popular press and journalism essays and reports. Perlmutter has been interviewed by most major news networks and newspapers, from the New York Times to CNN and ABC, and was a featured guest on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart. He has studied war, politics, and violence as well as crime and police issues in the media for almost 35 years. His most “true crime” book was a study of stereotypes of police in the media that included him riding along with officers and joining the department as a reserve officer.
