About the Dutch they say: God created the world, but the Dutch created their own country. And they advance in doing so, they manage the water situations worldwide, and are busy with ecological restoration in large parts of the world. And Denmark has been listed for years as one of the best countries in the world to live in. There, the relation between social possibilities, economy, and connection to nature is in balance. And they are in the lead in creating a carbon free country. And although both countries aren’t already ‘there’ and totally sustainable, and can learn from others, this book focuses on what is there to be learned from these countries, and, if we combine their strengths, can picture a perspective for the rest of the world. To solve the climate and biodiversity crisis. And create better social possibilities for all humans on the earth.
The Doughnut Economy by Kate Raworth talks about an ecological ceiling. Let's flip the doughnut and make an ecological foundation instead - let's make it a wedding cake instead. A cake in three layers, where the bottom is the ecological foundation, then the economy and last the society. If we take the best from all over the world, like the Dutch ability to do ecological restorations and the Scandinavian way to build society, we could live and thrive in the world.
