Pelvic floor health is a topic that tends to get overlooked, and truthfully, it can also be uncomfortable to talk about. However, it’s something that’s vital not only to discuss, but to take care of as well, as it plays a crucial role in various bodily functions, including maintaining continence, supporting organs and contributing to sexual pleasure.

Whitney’s guest, Clare Bourne, a pelvic health physiotherapist and author of Strong Foundations: Why Pelvic Health Matters, shares why caring for your pelvic health is vital and urges women to break the taboo surrounding discussions about pelvic health. This empowering conversation encourages self-awareness, understanding of anatomy and opening conversations.

Here’s what to look forward to in today’s episode:

  • In the UK they don’t use the phrase “do Kegels”
  • Focusing on movement and range with pelvic floor exercises
  • Clare describes what she calls the pelvic floor puzzle
  • Why Clare believes seeing a physio, having support, an assessment and a tailored plan should be standard after child birth
  • What a physio appointment with Clare consists of
  • We are still at a point in society where we don't even call anatomy what it is.
  • You can't detect problems with your body if you don't even know your baseline
  • One question women could be asking themselves more: how well do I know my anatomy?
