02.22.2023 Ephesians 5.25-32 Biblical Man
Manage episode 356091333 series 3449366
Assessing a the Biblical nature of man without using the Bible is mute. God’s word provides all we need. It is the only written truth we have access.
“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband” (ESV Bible, 2001, Ephesians 5:25-32).
It is clear that man is called to love woman, specifically in marriage, the way God loves the church. Man is called to provided selfless love that is unconditional, service to the needs of his wife, and sacrifice by valuing her flesh more than his own.
Lastly, competition in a marriage is unhealthy and moreover, I would argue unBiblical. As Christians we should focus on the talents each member of the marriage has; supporting those talents and contributing to the progress of the couple as one flesh. Do not be a hinderance by trying to mimic the same talents better. Let men do what they do best and women do what they do best in unison as one team.
We pray that our message today has encouraged you and that you will seek the Bible more fervently than ever. Blessing to you our brothers and sisters.
Stress is not the goal, be well.
