SKIP TO 14:51 TO GET TO THIS WEEK’S STORY Welcome to Episode 93 of Let’s Get Haunted. In the 1880s, brothers August and Herman Schuenemann decided to pursue their dreams of becoming ship captains and move together from their hometown in rural Wisconsin to the mean streets of Chicago. Through hard work and grit, they were both eventually able to sail as captains in the most dangerous kind of work available at the time: Christmas Tree Ships. What made this work so dangerous, was that they would be sailing the tumultuous waters of Lake Michigan from Chicago to northern Michigan’s evergreen forests to harvest trees to bring back to the city for Christmas. Very few ships were willing to make this journey as the ice, snow, and winter gales caused dangerous storms on the lake during this time of the year. Successfully completing these missions for many years, something would go terribly wrong in 1912, leading to many urban legends and ghost ship sightings that still exist today in the Great Lakes area of the U.S. Important Stuff: Buy Our Merch: https://www.letsgethaunted.com Donate to our stupid show: https://ko-fi.com/dogmomusa Buy Venterra Farms CBD Products: https://www.venterrafarms.com & use code “HAUNTED15” at checkout for 15% off Check out the photo dump for this week’s episode: https://www.instagram.com/letsgethaunted Send us mail: PO BOX 1658 Camarillo, CA 93011 Send us your listener stories: LetsGetHauntedPod@gmail.com Royalty Free Music in this episode: Song - "Aftermath" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)
