Welcome to this week’s Blonde Intelligence with me, Ms. Roni, where I always seek to give you exquisite cranial repertoire. Our discussion for this week is mental health and Hip Hop. The panel guests are OG Duv Mac, Rhyme Rocca, and M. Key. OG Duv Mac is from South Central Los Angeles, a member of the DPG, and owner of Team Faultline Records. He was instrumental in the Crips and Bloods truce and Album, Bangin on Wax, and is still currently a Hip Hop Artist. Rhyme Rocco is a Hip Hop Artist/Former Gang Banger out of the South Central LA area. He has changed his music from gangsta rap to gospel rap to inspire the youth and his community. M. Key is a licensed counselor with many years experience working with incarcerated youth and families. According to Pickney (2014) the goal of Hip Hop mental health is to cultivate a level of consciousness, thus empowerment through healing feelings of shame, insecurities, and low self-esteem.
