Much is made about the creative decisions in ads for the Big Game, but how does all that money, those requisite celebrity cameos, and everything else that goes into these multi-million dollar investments translate into Return on investment? Today we’re going to talk about what the numbers tell us from all those high-profile ads and who the winners and losers of the Advertising Bowl are in 2025. To help me discuss this topic, I’d like to welcome Nataly Kelly, CMO at Zappi, who unveiled their annual Super Bowl Ad Success report on Monday. We’re here to talk about the approach, the results, and what those results mean for brands that invested a lot of money - and time - into their campaigns. About Nataly Kelly I help companies unlock global growth For more than two decades, I have helped scale businesses across borders, as an executive at B2B SaaS and MarTech companies. I’m Chief Marketing Officer at Zappi, a consumer research platform. I spent nearly 8 years as a Vice President at HubSpot, a multi-billion-dollar public tech company, driving growth on the international side of the business. Having served as an executive at various tech companies, I’ve led teams spanning many functions, including Marketing, Sales, Product, and International Ops. I’m an award-winning marketing leader, a former Fulbright scholar, and an ongoing contributor to Harvard Business Review. I love working with interesting people and removing barriers to access. Watch Part 2 of our interview with reporter Chris McGreal, who was Johannesburg correspondent for The Guardian during the last years of apartheid through 2002. His new pieces for The Guardian are headlined “What does Elon Musk believe?” and “How the roots of the 'PayPal mafia' extend to apartheid South Africa.” Elon Musk was born in 1971 in Johannesburg, and McGreal discusses Musk’s grandfather, Joshua Haldeman, who immigrated to South Africa in 1950 when apartheid became “in many ways reminiscent of the Nazi Nuremberg laws against Jews in the 1930s. They have very similar echoes in stripping Black people of the right to work in certain places, their movements, controlling them, confining them to areas.” McGreal also responds to a new report from Semafor that the South African government is examining how Musk’s companies can invest in the country without complying with the nation’s Black empowerment rules.…

1 Jesse Hagopian on the "New McCarthyism": As More Educators Self-Censor, Others Vow to Teach the Truth
As Black History Month begins, longtime educator Jesse Hagopian joins us for Part 2 of an interview about the Trump administration and right-wing attacks on education, and his new book, Teach Truth: The Struggle for Antiracist Education. He lays out how “truth crime laws” that criminalize honest education have prompted two out of three teachers to self-censor discussions of race, gender and sexuality. “This is the new McCarthyism,” says Hagopian. “Teachers are scared to teach the truth.” He also describes a “great rebellion” of educators, parents and students who are practicing “fugitive pedagogy” in defiance of “outrageous laws trying to ban the truth.” Hagopian is a longtime educator and high school teacher in Seattle who is on the leadership team of the Zinn Education Project, which draws on historian Howard Zinn’s influential book, A People’s History of the United States. He also serves on the national steering committee of Black Lives Matter at School. His recent article for The Nation is headlined “The Far Right’s Plan to Force Teachers to Lie About Race.”…
