Today we are joined by Courtney Walden. After a run down of how she got out to Eugene she shares with us the role of her athletic career impacted her as a coach, including how the lessons of “contact time” and “stimulus” were taught to her in a unique manner through her time as a gymnast and a pole vaulter. She then discussed the idea of movement quality and how “feeling good” when doing it is just as valuable, if not more so. This is so vital, not just in allowing the athlete to load better, but also in helping drive autonomy, ownership, and buy-in with training. This leads her into a lesson on cueing, and how allowing the players to use iPads and review reps with their teammates helped build new “sport related” cues so the players had a better understanding of what they were trying to do in the gym.
