Mediator, trainer and activist, my guest Dr. David Silvera has been involved in developing mediation as an alternative form of dispute resolution in Israel since 1998. He explains what transformative mediation is, how it originated in America and how it utilises pragmatic, transformative and narrative theories to advance the mediation and decide on a solution. He emphasises the first step of transformative mediation as ‘trying to better the relationship, only after that you can deal with the conflict’. He talks about the court appointed system in Israel and Turkey, ethnoreligious mediation and multi-track diplomacy and how he enjoys intercultural mediation and bringing people together. He states how disharmony is good if managed well by good communication.
