“We don't want Idaho to have a bad reputation. This is our home state. We love our home state. It's beautiful. We pride ourselves on our nature. We pride ourselves on our wildlife. And instead, we are continuing to do things that are… that are sickening.” - Ella Driever In 1995, wolves were reintroduced to central Idaho, and in 2003 a Boise High school called Timberline officially adopted a local wolf pack. Throughout the 2000, students went on wolf tracking trips and in their wolf packs range. But in 2021, Idaho's legislature passed Senate Bill 1211, 1211 allows Idaho hunters to obtain an unlimited number of wolf tags, and it also allows Idaho's Department of Fish and Game to use taxpayer dollars to pay private contractors to kill wolves. That means bounties on wolves, including on public lands. And in 2021, the Idaho Fish and Game Commission expanded the wolf hunting season and hunting and trapping methods. So it's not too surprising to learn that also in 2021, the Timberline pack disappeared. The students, the ones that cared about wolves, at least, were devastated. Last summer I went to D.C. with some of the Species Unite team for a wolf rally on Capitol Hill. While I was there, two young women gave a talk about what happened at Timberline in 2021. Their names are Ella Driver and Sneha Sharma. They both graduated from Timberline High School and were there when their wolf pack disappeared. Please, listen and share.…

1 After an Attempted Train Ride in New Orleans, the Supreme Court Made Discrimination Legal for Over 70 Years and Obstructed Voting Rights for Minorities 31:15
The month of April brings the Old Ranger back to the microphone to discuss another Supreme Court decision, Plessy v. Ferguson. It was argued in April 1897—what some historians call the “worst decision in Supreme Court history. We’ll hear how the Plessy Case made both segregation and discrimination “perfectly legal and enforceable” in this Country; how Southern States passed Jim Crow laws, that continued to discriminate against black people for the next 70 years. The result was an assault on voting rights in the form of poll taxes, literacy tests, voter ID laws and redistricting maps. The Old Ranger assures us we’ll all be on the edge of our seats. And to top it off there will be quality music selections followed by some below average humor.…
This podcast describes the worst decision made by the US Supreme Court in March of 1857 where they decided that slaves were property. It describes the heart breaking history of Dred Scott who lived for 10 years as a free man at Fort Snelling in present day Minnesota. Only later to become a slave again in Missouri. The second section of the podcast laments the actions taken by states such as Florida that are trying to prevent this painful and sad history from being taught in our schools. "Those who do not learn from history are bound to repeat it." (George Santayana) The music describes how it helped Harriet Tubman lead slaves to freedom. But saving the best for last, some blue humor for St. Patrick's Day.…
