Welcome to Leaguel Counsel, a free flowing podcast largely covering all things Rugby League and occasionally touching on innocuous everyday stuff. The difference is this podcast looks at the “greatest game of all" from a global perspective and talks through the topics that you want to hear. The two hosts Richie Strettell and Jack Muir look at the most interesting Rugby League narratives every week and promise to try and stay on topic. Only things off limits are the player’s personal medical history and kids…except Noel Cleal’s son. Richard "Rihare" Strettell is a Rugby League tragic from the plush streets of Otatara, Invercargill, New Zealand. Although he has never played, his knowledge of the game is second to none, in fact his Mastermind specialist subject would be the Winfield Cup 1989 to 1996 and NRL Jersey Sponsors 1992-1995. Another unfortunate Warriors fan, his favourite Rugby League memories include Sonny Bill Willams test debut in 2004, Jerome Ropati’s try from a piece of Benji Marshall magic in the 2008 World Cup Final and Geoff Toovey press conferences. Jack "Tiaki" Muir was born in Christchurch New Zealand and has Rugby League heritage from his Old man’s uncle Tom Lynch who represented the New Zealand Rugby Union team before choosing to give his family a better life by taking a contract with Halifax from 1951 to 1956, featuring in the famous challenge cup final replay at Odsal stadium in 1954. Jacks mediocre Rugby League career had him feature for the Riccarton Knights, Victoria University Hunters, Omahu Huias, Wellington, West Mitchelton Panthers, Miles Devils, Hong Kong Hunters and Resident XIII. Now based in Hong Kong he is involved in the development of the "peoples game" in Asia as part of the HKRL executive. Like his co-host he is a big Warriors fan, but when they inevitably blow out he just loves watching good Rugby League played with the perfect mix of toughness and finesse.
