Introduction by Susan Wokoma: Khawla Ibraheem is a playwright, actor and director based in the Majdal Shams in the occupied Golan Heights. She is a regular at many theatres in Palestine, including El Hakawati, the Palestinian National Theatre, the Freedom Theatre and Al Jawal Theatre. Outside of Palestine, she has collaborated with many theatres and institutions, including as a fellow at the McDowell, and as an artist in residence at the Sundance Theatre Lab, where she met long time collaborator, director Oliver Butler. Khawla’s one-woman play A Knock on the Roof, premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2024 to great critical acclaim. Jephta was the recipient of Baxter Theater Director’s Bursary in 2010 and is co-founder and producer at PaperJet Productions. She was named one of the Mail and Guardian’s 200 Top Young South Africans in 2013 and is the recipient of South Africa’s highest art accolade – The Standard Bank Young Artist Award. Sutara began her music career as Lorna Gee in the late 70’s and is a pioneering female presence in the male dominated reggae scene. After training in acting at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, Sutara has also gone on to have an illustrious acting career on both stage and screen, including several appearances in plays at the Royal Court. Last year, her one woman play The Legends of Them, played a highly acclaimed run at Brixton House, produced by the Hackney Showroom. This Christmas it will run in the Royal Court Theatre Downstairs.…
